A 12-foot-long python has been recovered from Chattogram University (CU). The snake was recovered from the Social Science Research Center around 2:00 pm on Tuesday (December 28).
The snake was later released in the forest near the university.
Rafiqul Islam, a postgraduate student of university's zoology department and a trainee researcher at the Venom Research Center said it was a Burmese python.
"I think the snake can come to the locality in the sun or in search of food. We rescued the python and left it in the deep forest next to the Faculty of Biology." he added.
It is to be noted that snake infestation has increased in Chattogram University in the last few months. Snakes can be seen in the living room, in front of the door, on the sidewalk.
Experts say that Chattogram University can also be called a snake sanctuary.
One of the reasons is that the halls and faculty rooms have been vacant for a long time due to the pandemic. Now that in-person academic activities have resumed, snake sightings have become very common at CU campus.
