All preparations have been completed as the
much-anticipated 6.15 kilometer Padma Bridge will be opened for vehicular movement in a short time.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally open the Padma Bridge by unveiling the inaugural plaque at the Mawa point at 11am on Saturday.

Project : Padma Multi Purpose Bridge
Nature : Double Deck, Road at upper and Railway at lower
- Location : Mawa Point in Munshiganj to Jajira point in Shariatpur over the river Padma
- Length : 6.15 KM including approach roads in two sides
- Cost : Tk 288 billion, fully GOB funded
- Project completion : 48 Months, from November 2014 to November 2018
- Beneficiary : 50 million people in 22 South-West districts
- Economic viability : 1.2 per cent growth in the GDP
- Total land acquisition : 646.462 acres from inhabitants of the project site and 142.80 acres government's khas land
- Connecting : 14 KM in two sides
- Piling Depth : 383 feet
- Total Piling number : 264
- Pillars : Total 42. In river 40
- River training : 12 KM on both banks
