Accused in ex-DU professor killing case placed on 3-day remand

The court has granted 3-day remand for the accused who was arrested in connection with killing retired Dhaka University professor Sayeda Gaffar.

Earlier on the day Investigation Officer (IO) of the case sought 10-day remand after the accused Anarul Islam was produced before the court of judge Mehedi Pavel. However, the court granted remand for three days.

Accused Anarul Islam (25), son of Ansar Ali, hails from Bujurga village in Sadullapur upazila in Gaibandha.

“Sayeda Gaffar, wife of late Kibria Ul Khalek from Kagoritola area of Sutrapur in the capital, was a retired professor of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science, University of Dhaka. She was constructing a home at a residential area for retired DU teachers in Gazipur. She was a tenant of a building situated beside the construction site,” Sub-Inspector Sheikh Mizanur Rahman of Kashimpur police station and also IO of the case told media.

Anarul murdered Sayeda Gaffar for money. A total of taka 2 thousand 650 was recovered from him, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Zakir Hossain said.

According to the case statement, police recovered Sayeda’s body Friday morning. She went missing from 11 January.
