Anwar Ibrahim appointed as Malaysia's new prime minister

Days after the nation's 15th General Elections, Anwar Ibrahim, the head of Malaysia's opposition, was elected as the country's 10th prime minister, according to the sultan's palace.

Later on Thursday, he will be sworn in as the new prime minister in as the nation's 10th leader at the palace at 5 p.m. (0900 GMT) at the palace.

In the 1990s, the 75-year-old worked as deputy prime minister, and in 2018, he was named the official prime minister-in-waiting.
