Commerce Ministry to seal Evaly's fate Wednesday

On Wednesday, officials from the Commrerce Ministry will hold talks to decide on Evaly's future. The e-commerce site has sought six-month grace to meet it's dues. 

The Commerce Ministry sent the letter asking for an elaborate explanation how the company would repay its liabilities to the consuders. 

The committee which will decide on Evaly's issue is comprised of officials from the Home Ministry, ICT Division, Bangladesh Bank, National Board of Revenue (NBR), Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection, and the Bangladesh Competition Commission

Whle the committee is headed by Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh. 

Evaly was supposed to send an explanation to the ministry detailing its plan to meet all liabilities. A top official of the company seeking anonymity said they have sought six months more to audit their financial statements through a third-party. A progress report is on the way.

The letter to the commerce ministry was due August 1. 

Moreover, the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) had also sought explanations from Evaly whether the e-commerce platform has anything to write in defence why the association should still keep its membership. 

Vice-president of e-CAB Sahab Uddin Shipon said that Evaly has responded to all the queries through letters issued by regulatory bodies. 

Decision regarding Evaly membership on e-CAB  will be announced after thorough evaluations.
