Chhatra Leagues “activists’ assembly” goes on amidst restrictions

Amidst the government imposed restrictions in the educational institution to avoid the transmission of Covid-19 among the students, leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League Dhaka University Unit are currently exchanging views ahead of Dhaka University Chatra League’s Hall council.

The views exchange program was scheduled to be held physically in 18 different halls of Dhaka University (DU) from 21st January to 25th January and it is now going on.

Visiting several programs this correspondent witnessed around 500 activists on average take part in those programs without maintaining social distance and some other health protocol.

Dhaka University Chhatra League today declared several sub-committee ahead of the council on January 30.

However, Dhaka University’s authority decided to go with the decision of the health ministry over the educational institution closure. The university once again introduced online classes to avoid the session jam.  But the authority kept the dorms open saying that if the students go outside of the virus will also spread across the country.

What the authority says

Dr. Zakia Parveen, Provost of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall said, “We asked them to maintain health protocol and we have monitored the program.”

KM Saiful Islam Khan, Provost of Sir AF Rahman Hall said, “The government has imposed restrictions to avoid the infection among the students. Being the student wing of ruling party Bangladesh Chhatra League should play a vital role in ensuring that everyone is maintaining the health protocol.”

“Dhaka University is currently conducting online classes, in such a situation the political and cultural activities should not be conducted.”

AKM Golam Rabbani, Proctor of Dhaka University said, “Halls are open to all so anything can be done maintaining the health protocol.”

“We have an administration in every hall if you have any observation inform the concerned authority,” he requested.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Akhtaruzzaman said, “Everyone should maintain the health protocol for the sake of the students as well as for themselves.”

When this correspondent further asked about the issue he denied making further comments.

However, the President and General Secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Dhaka University Chhatra League were not responding to the calls in this regard.
