PM urges to raise kids as 'Smart Citizens'

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the children to grow as smart citizens on Friday following the idology of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

She said during an even marking National Children's Day at Tungipara in Gopalganj, also marking the 103rd birth anniversary of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

She said "The Father of the Nation Bangabandhu is no longer with us, but he left his principles for us to follow."

The country's children, according to the premier, must develop moral character and groom themselves smartly, so that they can play sports and engaging in physical esercise actively.

Every youngster will need to respect their parents and guardians, adhere to these guidelines, and possess human virtues, she stated.

The Women and Children Affairs Ministry arranged the programme under the management of Gopalganj district administration. This year the theme of the day is "Smart Bangladesher Swapne Bangabandhur Janmadin, Shishuder Chokh Somridhir Swapne Rangin (the birthday of Bangabandhu in the dream for Smart Bangladesh, Children need to be engrossed with dream for prosperity).”

The prime minister urged the kids to show sympathy for those who are differently abled or have special needs.

She noted that because the children are the country's future, the government's objective is to grow them into capable citizens.

Fazilatun Nessa Indira, the state minister for women and children affairs, spoke on the occasion. The celebration was presided over by a young girl named Sniha Islam, Women and Children Affairs ministry Secretary Md Hasanuzzaman Kallol delivered gave the welcome address.

A documentary titled ‘Bangabandhu and Children Rights’ was screened.

The district administration arranged a competition among the children under several segments – painting, quiz on Bangabandhu’s books ‘The Unfinished Memoirs’ and ‘the Prison Diaries,’ as well as recitation on the Bagabandhu’s historic 7th march speech on the occasion of the Children Day-2023.

Thirty-two winners of the competition received crests from the premier.

On the occasion, 100 indigent students each also received Tk 2,500 in financial aid.
