Commemorative Tk100 note, stamp out on Padma Bridge opening

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday unveiled commemorative Taka 100 note, postage stamp, souvenir sheets and opening day cover marking the historic moment of the grand opening of the country's longest Padma Bridge.

The country's biggest self-financed mega project is expected to boost GDP by 1.2 to 2 percent.

The unveiling took place the note at the opening ceremony of the country's biggest self-financed mega bridge on the mighty Padma River at Mawa end in Munshiganj.

The note was imprinted with photographs of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the frontal side.

Bangladesh Bank (BB) released the note having a picture of Padma Bridge imprinted in the background with signature of its Governor Fazle Kabir. 

Fazle Kabir was present at the function, among others. 

According to the BB officials, the new commemorative note will be available at Bangladesh Bank's Motijheel office and later at other branch offices from Sunday.

“Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina unveiled a postage stamp of Taka 10, a first day cover of Taka 10, four souvenir sheets of Taka 50 each and a data card of Taka 5,” Public Relations Officer of the Posts and Telecommunications Division M Shefyaet Hossain told BSS.

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar, Secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division Md Khalilur Rahman and Director General of the Directorate of Posts Md Faizul Azim were present on the occasion, among others.

Shefyaet said the postage stamp, the first day cover, the souvenir sheets and the data card will be available at Philatelic Bureau of Dhaka GPO and later at other GPOs and head post offices across the country.
