A group of leaders and activists of the Dhaka College unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) have confined BCL President Al Nahian Khan Joy, demanding the announcement of a new committee, say media reports.
They encircled a convoy of Joy in Dhaka city's New Market area around 10pm on Sunday.
However, Joy denied the development and called it a hoax.
A Dhaka College unit BCL leader, who is aspiring for a post, told reporters that they requested Joy to announce a new committee by December 5 as the BCL's central council holds the next day.
"If we don't have a new committee by then, we'll go for new programme," he said.
Joy said the Dhaka Unit BCL leadaers met him to discuss the issue.
"They came here today and discussed the committee-related issue. This is like we meet every day. So, there is nothing to be confined to," he argued.
Regarding the committee, he said, "After we took helm of BCL, the Covid pandemic began and the campus was closed duly.
"This is why we couldn't announce a new committee. But we're working on this," he concluded.
