Diplomats overwhelmed seeing Padma Bridge

Diplomats stationed in Dhaka had the opportunity to see Bangladesh’s dream project Padma Bridge on their way to Tungipara, Gopalganj by road on Thursday to pay respect to Bangladesh’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

State minister for foreign affairs Md Shahriar Alam, who is accompanying the diplomats during the visit, explained how the dream of having a mega project like Padma Bridge is becoming a reality.

“Heads of Mission in Bangladesh enjoyed a fascinating visit to the birthplace and mausoleum of Bangabanin Gopalganj. Ferry across the Padma highlighted the scale of the new bridge and the development it will bring when it opens this year,” British High Commissioner in Dhaka Robert Dickson tweeted.

Kosovan ambassador Guner Ureya also shared a post on his tweeter account saying “Construction works on Padma Bridge are about to finish. This multipurpose bridge is long around 6 km and is scheduled to be open in June 2022. This bridge is one of the most challenging construction projects in the history of Bangladesh. Congrats Bangladesh.”

Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh Ito Naoki said that the state minister explained to the head of missions about the impact of Padma Bridge on the economy and people’s lives in Bangladesh.

‘Another game-changer for inclusive and sustainable development,’ Naoki tweeted sharing photos of Padma Bridge which is set to be inaugurated soon.

Talking to media while travelling by ferry, state minister Shahriar said that the completion of this mega project would remind the foreign friends how Bangladesh went through enormous challenges and how those challenges were overcome to fulfil the dream of Padma Bridge.

He said that the diplomats would be able to know more about Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his childhood days while visiting Tungipara.
