The death toll from an earthquake that hit Indonesia's Cianjur town in western Java has risen to 268, the local government has confirmed recently.
With around hundred missing, some areas are still unreachable and more than 1,000 people injured in the 5.6 magnitude quake. The death toll is rising and nearer hospitals are already overwhelmed, and patients laying on stretchers and cots in tents set up outside, awaiting further treatment.
Suharyanto, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency chief said, above 12,000 army personel were deployed Wednesday to increase the strength of search.
In several areas, water as well as food and medical supplies were being distributed from trucks, and authorities have deployed military personnel carrying food, medicine, blankets, field tents and water tankers reports AP.
