Fire at Mongla EPZ, 12 firefighting units deployed

A massive fire broke out in a factory of Bagerhat's Mongla Export Processing Zone (EPZ).

At least twelve units of fire service are working to bring the fire under control on Tuesday (January 31) which started around 3:30pm.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Mongla police station Monirul Islam confirmed the incident of fire to TheReport.live.

He said, “There was a fire in Mongla EPZ’s VIP Luggage Factory in the afternoon. In this, the raw material, fiber and all the manufactured luggage were burnt. The fire service, navy and locals are working together to control the fire.”

“The fire is believed to have started from an electrical short circuit. But it is still not clear," OC said adding that no casualty was reported.

Meanwhile, Executive Director of Mongla EPZ, Mahbub Ahmed Siddique told the media, "There was a sudden fire at factory number-1 of Indian ownership-based VIP Luggage. When the fire broke out, the workers quickly came out. An investigation committee will be formed to probe the incident."

Mizanur Rahman an official of the VIP company said that there was no casualty in the fire, but they suffered a loss of several lakhs of Taka.

The company authorities could not immediately say how many workers were there at the factory during the fire broke out.
