Ivy hopeful about victory with ‘ifs and buts’

Casting her vote Awami League nominated mayoral candidate Selina Hayat Ivy expressed optimism over the victory of the boat symbol.

“I must win if the election is held in a fair manner. The boat must win. I am hundred percent sure about the victory,” Ivy said.

The ruling party-backed aspirant cast her vote around 11am at Shishubagh School in the city on Sunday.

Urging the law enforcement agencies to stay alert Ivy said, “I must accept the result whatever the outcome is.”

Ivy also voiced the slow pace in voting at Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). She urged to repair the technical glitch.

Earlier on the day, Ivy’s prime opposition Taimur Alam Kandaker also expressed hope about his win. “I must win the election at least more than one lakh margin,” Taimur said after casting his vote.

Apart from Ivy and Taimur Sijrazul Islam Mamun is vying for the mayoral post with wall clock symbol from Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish while Islami Andolon Bangladesh nominated Masum Billah for the post.

Rashed Ferdous from Bangladesh Kalyan Party is running for the same post with the hand clock symbol, Md. Jashim Uddin of Bangladesh Khelafat Andolon with banyan tree symbol and independent candidate Kamrul Islam is racing the competition with horse symbol.

As many as 148 hopefuls are running for councilor post while 34 women are contending for the reserved seats.

Candidates of various posts have launched electioneering since the polls schedule was declared.

No pre-polling violence was reported so far in the city.

The polls opened on Sunday morning with more than 5 lakh voters to use their franchise. Of the total voters, 2 lakh 59 thousand 846 are men while 2 lakh 57 thousand 511 are female.
