Jisan, the motion graphic designer making Bangladesh proud in Hollywood

West Side Story is a 2021 American musical romantic drama film directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by Tony Kushner.

The TV trailer for the Hollywood movie was developed by Kamrul Hasan Jisan, a young motion graphic designer hailing from Comilla.

The list does not end here: last year, he worked on the trailers of some exciting projects, including "Elvis", "Mafia Mamma", "The Rings of Power", "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny", "Avatar: The Way of Water", "Black Adam", and "The Kardashians (Season 2)" among others.

Originally from Laksham upazila, he does not have any academic knowledge about graphic designing.

Life could have been different for the university dropout, but Jisan always dreamt big and of going beyond the limits. And he is now proving his worth in Los Angeles.

He was a diehard fan of Hollywood films. “But trailers and teasers always caught my attention more than the movies would do,” he said.

Never did he think of working in Hollywood.  Basically, the story of his interest in trailers and teasers began after he had watched "Lord of the Rings" in 2002.

In 2007, he took a Photoshop course in Laksham. He moved to Dhaka the next year and began practicing advanced Photoshop with the help of YouTube.

With time, he became acquainted with 3D animation and motion graphics, but was limited by the lack of a personal computer.

He worked as a freelancer between 2013 and 2016.

However, the journey to Los Angeles was an uphill task. He moved to the US in 2016 and managed the job of a graphics designer in a newspaper.

As he was not well trained on professional ground, he was facing tough time there. Jisan even had to work in restaurants.

He moved to Los Angeles in 2017 with just $200 in hand. It was when COVID began that he left his current job to find luck in Hollywood.

“During the lockdown, I began pursuing my dream because there was nothing else keeping me busy. I started watching tutorials, movies and also reading articles about graphic design. I used to sit in front of my PC for at least 16 to 17 hours every day for a year. I just wanted to be the best, and this was my last hope,” he said.

Finally, luck smiled on him after months of repeated efforts to get a job as a competent graphic designer. In November 2021, Wild Card Creative appointed him.

And since then, he never had to look back. Jisan continued working with blockbuster projects.

He now dreams of winning the Golden Globe as an arts designer or director. It seems like the 32-year-old is heading towards his goal.
