'Medhabi'r Hashi' Project created Eid joy for 305 helpless DU students

Dhaka University Students’ Forum has taken the initiative to share the joy of Eid festivities among the students of the University of Dhaka, who are in crisis due to the ongoing global pandemic.

Recent press reports state, applications were received from the vulnerable and distressed 1st and 2nd-year students of DU through the 'Medhabi’r Hashi' program. A total of 307 applications were dropped and cash donations were donated to the cause by interested donors.

According to a recent press release of the organization, about 2 lakh 34 thousand taka were given out as gifts among 305 DU students who were financially struggling.  These donations were given out through this program on Thursday (May 13). The applications were divided into four categories based on the financial condition of these students and the number of their family members, keeping the names and identities of the students completely confidential.

Those with the most financial difficulties were in the first category and have been given Tk 2,000 each. In the second category, students received Tk 1,500; in the third category Tk 1,000 and in the fourth and last category Tk 500 were donated to these students, respectively.

Moreover, the sick and distressed applicants were sorted among these applications and the list was sent to the Nabiha Trust through Golam Rabbani, the former general secretary of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and the founder of Team Positive Bangladesh (TPB). From there, 63 more students were given Tk 4,000 each and a total of Tk 252,000.

Zulias Cizar Talukdar, the founder of the Dhaka University Nirapatta Moncha, Dhaka University Students’ Forum and one of initiators of this program, recently told the press, “Sharing happiness increases the joy, it never decreases it. We took the initiative to help out fellow students in need and countless people joined the effort and made it a success. We just made some arrangements to deliver this love to everyone. In this case, we were the ‘mailmen of love.’”

He also said, “A total of 307 applications (both online and offline) were received for the 'Medhabi’r Hashi' program of Dhaka University Students’ Forum. A total of 305 people received the donations. The other two were unavailable over the phone so we could not send it to them. If they contact after Eid, they will be paid. The way students came together to stand beside their fellow students in need, gave us huge confidence to tackle and resolve the difficult times that we have ahead of us.”

Siddiqui Mohsin Patwari, founder of the Dhaka University Manobik Bondhushobha and one of the main organizers of the Dhaka University Students’ Forum, said, “We took the 'Medhabi’r Hashi' initiative to spread the joy of Eid among the fellow DUians. We will take more initiatives like this very soon.”
