Pori Moni drug case deferred after she missed court due to 'illness'

Actress Pori Moni could not appear in court due to 'illness'. Hence, court had to defer the hearing of a drug case in which she is indicted. January 22 has been fixed for the hearing of the chargesheet against three persons including the actress Pori Moni under the Narcotics Control Act.

Pori Moni was scheduled to appear at the Dhaka Special Judge's Court-10 on Tuesday (December 14) to appear in a drug case. But she could not appear in court as she fell ill.

On November 15, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayesh accepted the chargesheet against three persons including Pori Moni. At the same time, the case was transferred to Special Judge's Court-10. On the same day, the court fixed December 14 for the next hearing. The other two accused in the case are Ashraful Islam Dipu and Kabir Hossain.

Earlier, on October 4, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) inspector Kazi Mostafa Kamal, the investigating officer in the case, filed a chargesheet against the three, including Pori Moni.

According to the case statement, Pori Moni has been using drugs since 2016. For this she installed a 'minibar' at her residence. She used to host regular ‘alcohol parties' there. Film producer Nazrul Islam Raj and many others supplied various types of drugs including alcohol at her house.

On August 4, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Pori Moni from her Banani residence in a raid. Afterwards RAB filed a case against Pori and her accomplice Dipu at Banani Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act. Pori Moni was first remanded four days in that case.
