Rapper Coolio passes away

Rapper Coolio, whose 1990s successes included "Gangsta's Paradise" and "Fantastic Voyage," died on Wednesday at the age of 59, according to reports.

In Los Angeles, the Grammy-winning musician passed away. No immediate explanation for the death was given.

According to reports, Coolio was discovered unconscious in a friend's restroom on Wednesday afternoon.

In the late 1980s, Coolio started his music career in California. By 1994, when he signed with Tommy Boy Records, he had established roots in the Los Angeles music scene.

The song "Gangsta's Paradise" from the following year, however, is what really established Coolio's fame.

It was the most popular hit of the year and earned Coolio a Grammy at the subsequent awards ceremony for the song's best rap solo performance.
