Ronaldo baffles fans putting hands down pants before 'eating' item

In a bizarre turn of events, Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo baffled and disgusted fans after eating an item of food he was storing in his pants against Ghana.

Ronaldo scored the opener for Portugal with a controversial penalty that he won in the Group H clash, becoming the first player to score in five different World Cup tournaments.

He was branded a "cheat" for going down under the challenge of Mohammed Salisu, who appeared to get a touch on the ball.

But the 37-year-old, who has gone into the World Cup without a club following his Manchester United termination, also attracted attention for eating something he fetched out of his underwear.

The cameras captured the moment that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner reached down his pants and grabbed something.

He was then seen plonking into his mouth and chomping away on it.

It was likely some of energy booster for Ronaldo but the fact it was in his pants and not handed to him by a coach or physio had a lot of people questioning his hygiene.

"I actually don’t care wat

he ate but where the did he remove it from," one fan asked.

Another said: "That's grim. What was it? A bit of lunch he had saved?"

A third commented: "Anyone else get a hankering for sweaty shorts jaffa cakes when you're playing football? Nah me neither."

A fourth wrote: "I always knew Ronaldo thought he was chocolate, but this is taking it a little too literally."

Ghana equalised when former Swansea and West Ham striker Andre Ayew tapped home in the 73rd minute but he hadn't even finished celebrating before Joao Felix put Portugal back in front.

Rafael Leao then finished smartly after another cute Bruno Fernandes assist. Osman Bukari reduced the deficit and prompted an irate response from Ronaldo, who was visibly angry as he watched him perform his 'SIUU' celebration.

Ronaldo displayed his leadership skills after the game during exchanges with his teammates.

However, he didn't fancy sticking around for long in his press conference that lasted just 2 minutes and 12 seconds.

Next up for Portugal is a fixture with Uruguay on 28 November, before they play South Korea on 2 December.
