American pop superstar, songwriter and dancer beyoncé on Sunday has broken the record for the most Grammy wins of any artist, scoring her 32nd prize ever and fourth of the night to resounding applause.
With her victories tonight for dance/electronic music recording, traditional R&B performance, best R&B song and dance/electronic music album, Beyoncé surpassed the late classical conductor Georg Solti, who had 31 Grammy awards.
Despite her success through the years, the 41-year-old “Break My Soul” singer has never claimed the best album trophy with any of her four nominations in the category. Styles took home that honor on Sunday for “Harry’s House.”
“I’ve been so inspired by every artist in this category,” a surprised Styles said as he accepted the award. “On nights like tonight, it’s obviously so important for us to remember that there is no such thing as best in music.”
“I’m trying not to be too emotional and I’m trying to just receive this night,” she told the crowd at the gala in Los Angeles, after breaking the record a little more than two hours into the main telecast. “I want to thank God for protecting me. I’d like to thank my uncle Johnny, who’s not here, but he’s here in spirit.”
Beyoncé also thanked her parents, husband and three children before concluding, “I’d like to thank the queer community for your love and for inventing this genre.”
The 41-year-old beyoncé was still up for several awards later Sunday, including album, record and song of the year.
