If the covid situation improves and gets under control, then Bangladesh will hold Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examination the second week of November, and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations will be held in the first week of December, said Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni.

The minister made the announcement during a virtual press conference on SSC, HSC examinations at 11:00 am on Thursday (July 15).

She said if the covid situation improves, then the government has plans to hold SSC,HSC and equivalent examinations with reduced syllabus, within a limited time-frame.

The examinations will be held maintaining health protocols.

The minsiter's press call is a sigh of relief to anxious parents, and students across Bangladesh. During the last academic term, Bangladesh could not hold any secodary or higher secondary level examination due to the coronavirus pandemic.

During the press conference, she also mentioned, that if it is not possible to hold physical examinations, then results will be deduced based on assignments and through subject-mapping. The reduced syllabus will be covered through assignments.

There will be total 24 assignments for SSC and 30 for HSC candidates. Forms for the examinations will be made available post Eid-ul-Azha.

Since March 2020, educational institutiona have been shut across the country.

However, it still remains unclear whether it will be feasible to hold in-person examinations for students, as Bangladesh is going through an alarming covid situation. The country reported over 200 covid deaths for four straight days, even amid strict lockdown.
