SUST Movement: Students continue Hunger Strike for Day 2

Agitated students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology are on hunger strike for the second straight day demanding the resignation of their VC Farid Uddin Ahmed.

The agitating students started the demonstrations demanding the resignation of the vice-chancellor from Wednesday, and warned their hunger strike will continue till death if the VC does not step down.

Batting no eye to rigid winter winds, they observed the fast in front of the Vice-Chancellor's building overnight. Several faculties were seen trying to resolve the issue with students, however students still continued their strike.

Since January 13, hundreds of SUST students have camped in the university premises pressing their three-point demand, including resignation of VC Farid Uddin.

The protests started when the provost of Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall of SUST allegedly misbehaved with a student.

At one stage of that movement, Jafrin Ahmed (Provost of Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall) resigned citing health issues. Meanwhile, the students were accused of attacking the law enforcers.

On Monday night, police filed a sabotage case against 200-300 undentified students for obstructing on-duty police, and blasting cocktails, including threatening to kill a police officer.

Police clashed with the SUST students when they went to free the VC who was confined by the students in a room in the unversity premises, along with some teachers.
