The Kachchi Bhai restaurant in the Gulshan-2 neighborhood of the city was fined Tk 1 lakh by a mobile court of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Wednesday.
The Kachchi Biryani food-chain faced the penalty for operating without authorization from the appropriate authorities and for lacking any fire safety precautions.
The government agencies` response to the fatal fire at the Green Cozy Cottage in the Bailey Road area last Thursday, which claimed 46 lives, including the DNCC`s intervention. The building on Bailey Road housed a branch of Kachchi Bhai.
During a trip this afternoon, Julker Nayen, the Executive Magistrate and DNCC Zone-3 Zonal Executive Officer, assessed the fine. If the owner doesn`t pay the fine, he might get three months in jail, he said.
