Bangladesh, China, and Pakistan agree to form new trilateral alliance

Bangladesh, China, and Pakistan have agreed to establish a new trilateral platform aimed at boosting economic development and improving the quality of life for the people of all three countries.

The decision was made during a trilateral meeting at the vice foreign minister/foreign secretary level held in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China. The three nations also agreed to form a joint working group to advance this new platform.

The meeting was attended by Sun Weidong, China‍‍`s Vice Foreign Minister; Ruhul Alam Siddique, Bangladesh’s Acting Foreign Secretary; and Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, Pakistan’s Additional Foreign Secretary. Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch joined the discussions virtually.

The three sides engaged in detailed discussions on trilateral cooperation, emphasizing principles such as good-neighborly relations, equality, mutual trust, openness, inclusivity, shared development, and win-win partnerships. They agreed that the main objective of this cooperation is to promote economic progress and improve living standards across the three nations.

The countries also identified several priority areas for collaboration, including industry, trade, maritime affairs, water resources, climate change, agriculture, human resource development, think tanks, health, education, cultural exchange, and youth engagement.

Based on the outcomes of the meeting, the three nations will soon establish a joint working group to coordinate and implement cooperative projects. They also stressed that this trilateral initiative upholds the principles of multilateralism and open regionalism and is not directed against any third party.
