The country’s measles-related death toll has climbed to 973 this year, with six more children dying with measles-like symptoms in the latest 24-hour period, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) data.
The six deaths, recorded until 8am Monday, have all been classified as suspected measles fatalities. This takes the number of suspected deaths to 874, while laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remain at 99.
The latest update also recorded 1,162 new suspected measles cases, raising the nationwide total to 157,991.
Meanwhile, 94 additional cases were confirmed through laboratory testing, taking the cumulative number of confirmed infections to 19,312.
Since March 15, a total of 138,445 people with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country, according to the DGHS. Of them, 133,404 have recovered.
The figures underline the continued spread of suspected measles infections, with the majority of reported deaths yet to be confirmed through laboratory testing.
