7 more children die with measles-like symptoms, death toll rises to 950

Seven more children died with measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours, while 1,171 children were diagnosed with measles and measles-like symptoms during the same period.

The figures were released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in its latest measles update on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the report, seven children died with suspected measles symptoms over the past 24 hours. However, no deaths from laboratory-confirmed measles were reported during the period.

Since March 15, a total of 851 children have died with suspected measles symptoms across the country, while another 99 have died from confirmed measles. This brings the total number of deaths from measles and suspected measles to 950 during the period.

In addition, 73 children were diagnosed with measles in the past 24 hours, while 1,098 reported measles-like symptoms. During the same period, 1,019 children were newly admitted to hospitals, while 954 were discharged.

According to DGHS data, a total of 152,736 suspected measles cases have been recorded nationwide from March 15 through Wednesday. Of these, 18,651 cases have been confirmed as measles. A total of 133,573 patients have been hospitalised, while 128,765 have been discharged and returned home.
