Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said the government expects to bring the country’s law and order situation under control within six months, with no criminal remaining at large.
He made the remarks on Wednesday afternoon while speaking as the chief guest at a Milad and doa mahfil organised by the BNP in Nayapaltan to mark Eid-e-Miladunnabi.
Salahuddin said the government was working to restore public confidence in the law enforcement agencies and improve their effectiveness.
“No criminal will be found who has not been arrested by the police in the last six months,” he said, describing the police’s progress as an achievement.
He added that the morale of the police, which had previously declined, had now returned.
The Home Minister also said suspects involved in several high-profile murder cases had been brought to justice.
He acknowledged that major changes in law and order could not be achieved overnight, but assured that the government was working to improve the situation.
“Revolutionary changes cannot be brought about overnight.
The government is working to make law enforcement agencies more people-friendly,” he said.
Speaking about Eid-e-Miladunnabi, Salahuddin said Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) came to the world as a mercy for humanity.
He said it was the government’s commitment to run the state in accordance with the Prophet’s teachings.
“If his principles and ideals were followed in today`s world, there would be no wars or unrest,” he said.
