Aamir Khan is undergoing a major physical transformation for his next sports drama, Lalkaara, which reunites him with director Ashutosh Gowariker more than two decades after Lagaan. The actor is reportedly following a strict weight-loss plan to portray a 25-year-old character.

According to Filmfare, a source close to the project said Aamir has already started working on his look for the film. Lalkaara is reportedly based on the historic 1952 Test series between India and Pakistan.

The project marks another cricket-focused collaboration between Aamir and Gowariker. Their 2001 film Lagaan told the story of villagers who challenge British officers to a cricket match during colonial rule and went on to become one of their most celebrated films.

Aamir has previously undergone major physical changes for several roles, and he is once again expected to put significant effort into matching the appearance of his character.

There had also been reports that Farhan Akhtar would act in Lalkaara, but those claims were later disputed. Speaking to Variety India, Farhan said he could not have exited a project he had never officially joined.

Although Farhan is not acting in the film, he remains connected to the project as a producer. He and Ritesh Sidhwani are backing Lalkaara under their production banner Excel Entertainment.

Further details about the film, including its full cast and release date, are yet to be announced.
