Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been sworn in as the 23rd president of Bangladesh.
He took the oath at 7:30pm on Friday at a ceremony held in the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban.
Acting Speaker of Parliament Kaisar Kamal administered the oath of office to him.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, who had been serving as acting president, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, former interim government Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, Leader of the Opposition Shafiqul Rahman, members of the current cabinet, foreign diplomats, lawmakers, and senior civilian and military officials attended the swearing-in ceremony at Bangabhaban.
Leaders of various political parties were also present as guests.
The ceremony began at 7:30pm with the national anthem, followed by a recitation from the Holy Quran. Acting Speaker Kaisar Kamal then administered the oath of office to President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The ceremony was conducted by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani.
