Parliamentary leader and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman cast his ballot alongside BNP presidential candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in the election for the country’s 23rd president.
Voting began at 2pm on Thursday after Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmed cast his ballot.
Acting Speaker Kaiser Kamal voted next, followed by government and opposition lawmakers, who cast their ballots one after another.
After casting their votes, the acting president and acting speaker exchanged greetings with Opposition Leader Shafiqure Rahman and several other lawmakers.
Prime Minister and parliamentary leader Tarique Rahman later cast his vote alongside BNP presidential candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Mirza Fakhrul then cast his own ballot. After voting, he went over to opposition lawmakers and exchanged greetings with them.
Meanwhile, lawmakers from the 11-party electoral alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami are also casting their votes. Opposition Leader Shafiqure Rahman, Deputy Opposition Leader Abdullah Muhammad Taher, and National Citizen Party lawmakers Hasanat Abdullah and Akhter Hossain were among those who voted.
Lawmakers are casting their ballots one after another. MPs including Selima Rahman, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Nipun Roy Chowdhury, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and Amanullah Aman have also cast their votes.
A ballot box has been placed at the centre of the parliamentary chamber, where lawmakers are casting their ballots individually.
After voting, several ruling-party lawmakers met with presidential candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and exchanged handshakes with them.
