Gold prices rise again in Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has raised gold prices in the domestic market for the third consecutive time. The price of 22-carat gold has been increased by Tk1,133 per bhori, bringing the price, including VAT, to Tk236,779.

BAJUS announced the new prices in a notice on Thursday morning. The revised rates came into effect at 10am the same day.

According to the notice, the price of locally sourced refined gold, known as “tezaabi gold” or pure gold, has increased. Taking the overall market situation into consideration, BAJUS has revised the prices of gold, including VAT.

Under the new rates, one bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold will cost Tk236,779, including VAT. The price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk226,165 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk194,260 per bhori. Gold sold under the traditional method has been priced at Tk158,630 per bhori.

BAJUS said the new rates will remain effective at all jewellery shops across the country until further notice. Labour charges will apply separately depending on the design of the jewellery. As VAT is already included in the selling price of gold and silver jewellery, retailers cannot charge customers VAT separately.

The association also said its previous rules will remain in effect for jewellery exchange and purchase after excluding applicable VAT, labour charges and the value of stones.

Before Thursday’s adjustment, BAJUS last revised gold prices on August 11. On that day, the price of 22-carat gold was raised by Tk1,108 per bhori to Tk235,146, including VAT. The prices of 21-carat, 18-carat and traditional-method gold were set at Tk224,590, Tk192,864 and Tk157,522 per bhori, respectively. Those rates also took effect at 10am that day.

According to BAJUS data, gold prices in Bangladesh have been adjusted 102 times so far this year. Of these, prices were increased on 51 occasions, reduced on 50 occasions, and adjusted once due to VAT.

In 2025, BAJUS revised gold prices a total of 93 times. Prices were raised 64 times and lowered 29 times.
