One more child dies with measles-like symptoms, death toll rises to 987

One more child has died with measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours in Bangladesh, while 1,154 new cases of measles and measles-like symptoms were reported during the same period.

The information was disclosed in the Directorate General of Health Services’ (DGHS) regular measles bulletin issued on Friday.

According to the DGHS bulletin, one person died with measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours. The bulletin did not separately mention whether any deaths from confirmed measles were recorded during the period.

With this, the total number of deaths from measles and measles-like symptoms across the country since March 15 rose to 987 as of Friday. Of these, 888 deaths were among people with measles-like symptoms, while 99 were confirmed measles deaths.

Meanwhile, 40 people tested positive for confirmed measles in the past 24 hours, while 1,114 people developed measles-like symptoms. During the same period, 1,154 new patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals.

According to DGHS data, the total number of people who have developed measles-like symptoms in the country since March 15 has reached 162,262. Of them, 19,567 have been confirmed to have measles.

During this period, a total of 142,453 patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals. Of them, 137,350 were discharged after receiving treatment.
