Nationwide special measles vaccination drive to begin by month-end: Health Minister

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain has said that a special measles vaccination campaign will begin nationwide by the end of this month. He also said measles vaccines have already been administered in all districts of the country except Rangamati and Bandarban.

The health minister made the remarks while speaking to reporters after inspecting Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Friday morning.

Sakhawat Husain said the health sector has undergone significant changes since the government assumed office. He claimed that 100 percent attendance of doctors has so far been ensured at all the hospitals he has visited.

He said punctuality among doctors at Osmani Medical College Hospital, including timely arrival and departure, would be ensured within the next seven working days.

The health minister also claimed that the quality of healthcare services has improved at hospitals across the country over the past six months.

During the visit, Sakhawat Hossain assured that the government hospitals in Sylhet that are currently under construction or have already received approval would be opened soon.

Earlier on Friday morning, he held a meeting with hospital officials, doctors and nurses.

Among those present during the meeting and hospital inspection were Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, hospital director Brigadier General Umar Rashid Munir, and leaders of the Sylhet district and metropolitan units of the BNP at various levels.
