The government has taken an initial decision to hold Bishwa Ijtema in two phases next January on the banks of the Turag River in Tongi. According to the proposed schedule, the first phase is set to take place from January 8 to 10, followed by the second phase from January 15 to 17. However, the two factions have submitted separate proposals regarding the arrangements for the Ijtema.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed disclosed the information on Thursday afternoon after a meeting with the Saad faction at the Home Ministry in the Secretariat.
During the meeting, the Saad faction proposed holding its Bishwa Ijtema in a single phase before Ramadan, after the Zubair faction completes its two-phase Ijtema in January. The Zubair faction, meanwhile, has proposed that the Saad faction hold its Ijtema at a separate venue.
The home minister said the government would hold further detailed discussions with both sides before announcing a final decision.
Meanwhile, Salahuddin Ahmed claimed that the country’s overall crime situation is currently much better than it was in 2025. He said the government is working to further improve the law and order situation in line with public expectations.
