Two people were killed and several others wounded, including three police officers, after a gunman opened fire in Minneapolis on Wednesday, authorities said.

The suspect, identified as Garrett Parten, was also found dead, according to police spokesperson Garrett Parten. Authorities have not yet determined how he died.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while another died after being taken to hospital. Four people were transported to hospitals following the shooting.

Three police officers were among those hospitalised. Two had been shot and were expected to survive. A hospital spokesperson said both were in stable condition. One officer suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, while another underwent surgery. The nature of the third officer’s injuries was not immediately clear.

Police did not disclose a possible motive for the shooting.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz urged people to pray for the state following the incident. FBI Director Kash Patel said federal agents were also responding to the shooting.

City officials were expected to provide further details at a news conference later Wednesday.
