Measles-related deaths rise to 967 in Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s measles-related death toll has climbed to 967 this year, with four more children dying with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours to 8am Sunday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

All four latest deaths have been classified as suspected measles fatalities, taking the number of suspected deaths to 868. Confirmed measles deaths remain at 99.

The country also recorded 1,151 new suspected measles cases during the latest 24-hour period, pushing the cumulative number of suspected cases to 156,829.

At the same time, laboratory-confirmed infections increased by 365, bringing the total number of confirmed measles cases to 19,218.

Since March 15, a total of 137,347 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised nationwide, according to DGHS data. Of them, 132,292 have recovered.
