Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the prime suspect and an accomplice over the death of a government primary school headteacher in Dhaka, who was killed during an alleged bag-snatching attempt near the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

RAB also seized the motorcycle allegedly used in the attack, although the elite force has yet to disclose when or where the two suspects were arrested.

The identity of the accomplice has also not been released.

An RAB-2 official said Battalion Commanding Officer Additional Deputy Inspector General Naimul Hasan is scheduled to brief the media on the arrests in the afternoon.

The deceased, Ranjina Parvin, was the headteacher of Bagbari Balika Government Primary School in Bogura.

She had travelled to Dhaka for medical treatment.

Police said Ranjina was riding a rickshaw near the South Plaza of the Parliament Complex at around 6:30am on Saturday when two people on a motorcycle allegedly attempted to snatch her bag.

She fell from the rickshaw during the incident and suffered a severe head injury.

She was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
