Five more suspected measles deaths reported, total toll reaches 938

Five more children died with measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the 24 hours to 8am Monday, taking the combined number of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths this year to 938, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest five deaths were all classified as suspected measles fatalities. With them, the number of suspected measles deaths has risen to 839, while confirmed deaths remain at 99.

The DGHS also reported 1,149 new suspected measles cases during the latest 24-hour period. The total number of suspected cases nationwide has now reached 150,652.

Meanwhile, 83 new laboratory-confirmed cases were recorded, taking the total number of confirmed measles infections to 18,487.

Since March 15, a total of 131,664 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals across the country, DGHS data showed.

Of those hospitalised, 126,921 patients have recovered, according to the health authorities.
