3 more children die with measles-like symptoms, death toll rises to 933

Three more children died with measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours, while 1,228 children were diagnosed with measles or showed symptoms of the disease, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The figures were released in the DGHS’s latest measles update on Sunday afternoon.

The report said that although three children died with measles-like symptoms during the past 24 hours, no deaths were recorded among children with laboratory-confirmed measles.

Since March 15, a total of 834 children have died with measles-like symptoms nationwide. Another 99 children have died after being confirmed to have measles. This brings the total number of deaths from measles and suspected measles to 933 during the period.

In the past 24 hours, measles was newly confirmed in 131 children, while another 1,097 children developed measles-like symptoms. A total of 1,026 new patients were admitted to hospitals during the period, while 824 children were discharged after treatment.

According to DGHS data, the total number of suspected measles cases recorded in the country since March 15 stood at 149,503 as of Sunday. Of these, 18,404 cases were confirmed as measles.

During the same period, a total of 130,609 patients with measles or suspected measles were admitted to hospitals. Of them, 125,975 have so far been discharged after receiving treatment.
