FIFA has suspended Bangladesh forward Al Amin for 15 matches, the sport’s global governing body has announced.

The decision was confirmed by Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) media manager Sadman Sakib, according to a report by BBC Bangla.

The suspension stems from a brawl involving Bangladeshi and Maldivian players during a four-nation tournament held in the Maldives in June. As a result, Al Amin will be ruled out of Bangladesh’s next 15 international and national-team matches, including FIFA Tier 1 fixtures.

It is reportedly the longest suspension handed to a Bangladeshi footballer in recent times.

Another Bangladesh player, Mirajul, has been suspended for two matches over the same incident. The decisions were made by FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee.

The confrontation took place during the tournament on home soil in the Maldives, when Bangladeshi players clashed with members of the host nation’s team.

The previous notable suspension involving a Bangladesh footballer came in 1989, when then-national team captain Ilias Hossain was suspended for one year after allegedly assaulting a referee during the South Asian Games in Pakistan.
