BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said the ongoing fuel crisis was caused by the war, with its impact being felt on gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies.
He made the remarks while talking to reporters on Sunday morning after paying respects at the graves of former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
Rizvi said natural and global circumstances were among the major reasons behind the current crisis.
“War has created a fuel crisis. Its impact has been felt on gas and LNG supplies,” he said, adding that gas shortages had emerged in various parts of the country, while industrial operations had also been disrupted in some areas.
He said the government was nevertheless trying to continue social protection programmes for the people. The government must stand by people in areas facing shortages and take necessary measures to address the situation, he added.
Rizvi also said the government would remain accountable to the people and ensure accountability in all its activities.
He further said the current government had already demonstrated how a responsible government could work by prioritising public welfare, social protection and public services. He expressed his determination to maintain the same approach in the days ahead.
Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Mohammad Zahir Uddin Swapan and other party leaders and activists were present on the occasion.
