The International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Monday ordered three senior journalists to be shown arrested and sent to jail in a crimes against humanity case linked to the July 2024 uprising.
The journalists are former Bhorer Kagoj editor Shyamal Dutta, Ekattor TV Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief Mozammel Babu, and its Chief Correspondent Farzana Rupa.
The tribunal had earlier directed jail authorities to produce the three before it on Monday. Following their appearance, the prosecution sought their arrest in the case and requested two months to submit the investigation report.
Prosecutor Faruk Ahmed represented the prosecution at the hearing. Prosecutors Zahirul Amin, Marjina Raihan, Tarek Abdullah and others were also present.
According to the prosecution, the tribunal issued production warrants against the three journalists on August 17 in connection with the case related to the July uprising.
The case concerns events surrounding a press conference held by then prime minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban on July 14, 2024.
