Dengue claims 5 more lives, 839 hospitalised in 24 hours

Five more people have died from dengue in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 839 new patients have been hospitalised with the viral disease during the same period.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the figures in its dengue-related press release issued on Sunday.

According to the release, among the newly hospitalised patients, 117 are from Barishal Division, 100 from Chattogram Division, 135 from Dhaka Division outside the city corporations, 61 from Dhaka North City Corporation, and 91 from Dhaka South City Corporation.

In addition, 159 patients were admitted to hospitals in Khulna Division, 79 in Mymensingh, 71 in Rajshahi, 23 in Rangpur, and three in Sylhet.

According to DGHS data, a total of 28,929 dengue patients have been hospitalised across the country so far this year. Of them, 61.9% are men and 38.1% are women.

Meanwhile, 26,897 dengue patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals this year.

With the latest five deaths, the country’s dengue death toll has risen to 82 so far this year.
