David Emon remanded for five days in extortion case

A Chattogram court has placed alleged underworld figure Mobarak Hossain Emon, also known as David Emon, on a five-day remand in an extortion case filed with Hathazari Police Station.

Chattogram’s Second Judicial Magistrate Lokman Hakim granted the remand after a hearing on Wednesday afternoon.

Court Inspector Habibur Rahman said police had sought seven days’ remand to interrogate David Emon in the case. Following the hearing, the court granted five days.

Earlier on August 2, police secured five-day remands for David Emon in a murder case filed with Fatikchhari Police Station and in a separate arms case.

According to police, Mobarak Hossain Emon alias David Emon is an accused in at least 18 cases in Chattogram, including a double-murder case.

Police said they arrested David Emon along with three associates from a vehicle in the Jhumjhum area on the Narail-Jashore road in the early hours of July 29. The following day, he was shown arrested in three cases and sent to jail.
