The High Court has granted bail to Bidisha Siddique, the second wife of former president Hussain Muhammad Ershad, in a fraud case. Her lawyers said there is now no legal obstacle to her release.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Md Khairul Alam and Justice Md Rafiqul Islam passed the order today (Sunday).
Bidisha, who had been sentenced to two years in prison in the fraud case, was sent to jail after her arrest. Police arrested her from the Gulshan area of the capital at around 8:30pm on August 25.
On May 20 this year, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamshed Alam sentenced Bidisha to two years of rigorous imprisonment after finding her guilty in a fraud case filed in 2008. The court also fined her Tk 10,000. The verdict stated that she would face an additional one month of non-rigorous imprisonment if she failed to pay the fine.
