Police recovered the decomposed bodies of a couple and their newborn from a rented room in Ashulia early Saturday, raising questions over how the family died.
The bodies were found at a house in Madhya Jamgara, Savar, after local residents noticed a foul smell coming from the room.
Police broke open the door at around 1:30am and recovered the bodies.
The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately.
Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tarikul Islam said the family had recently rented the room on the second floor of a four-storey building owned by Haji Hazrat Ali.
Police suspect the man may have died by suicide, as a gamcha was found wrapped around his neck.
However, the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the woman and the newborn remain unclear.
Locals said the room’s doors and windows were usually kept closed.
The bodies were sent to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsies.
A forensic team from the Criminal Investigation Department visited the scene and collected evidence.
Police are working to identify the deceased and determine what led to the deaths, the OC said.
