Gold price drops by Tk 2,216 per bhori in Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has reduced gold prices in the domestic market by Tk 2,216 per bhori, setting the price of 22-carat gold at Tk 235,146 per bhori, including VAT.

BAJUS announced the revised prices in a notice issued on Sunday morning. The new rates came into effect at 10am today.

According to the notice, the price of Tejabi gold (pure gold) has fallen in the local market. Considering the overall market situation, BAJUS has revised gold prices, including VAT.

Under the new rates, 22-carat gold will cost Tk 235,146 per bhori (11.664 grams), including VAT. The price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 224,590 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk 192,864 per bhori. Gold sold under the traditional method will cost Tk 157,522 per bhori.

BAJUS said the new prices will remain effective at all jewellery shops across the country until further notice. However, making charges will apply depending on the design of the jewellery. As VAT is already included in the selling price of gold and silver jewellery, jewellers cannot charge customers VAT separately.

BAJUS also said its existing rules on jewellery exchange and purchase will remain unchanged, excluding applicable VAT, making charges and the cost of stones.

BAJUS last adjusted gold prices on September 3. On that day, it raised the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 5,482 per bhori, setting the price at Tk 237,362, including VAT. The revised rate also took effect at 10am.

At the time, 21-carat gold was priced at Tk 226,690 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 194,614, and gold sold under the traditional method at Tk 158,980 per bhori.

With the latest adjustment, gold prices have been revised 112 times in Bangladesh so far this year. Prices have been increased 56 times, reduced 55 times, and adjusted once due to VAT.

In 2025, gold prices in the domestic market were revised 93 times. Prices were increased 64 times and reduced 29 times.

Despite the reduction in gold prices, silver prices remain unchanged.

Currently, 22-carat silver is selling at Tk 5,132 per bhori, including VAT. The price of 21-carat silver is Tk 4,957 per bhori, 18-carat silver Tk 4,257, and silver sold under the traditional method Tk 3,208 per bhori.

So far this year, silver prices have been revised 68 times. Prices have been increased 35 times and reduced 33 times.

In 2025, silver prices in the domestic market were revised 13 times, with prices increased 10 times and reduced three times.
