Students can play an important role in preventing dengue by keeping their homes, schools and surroundings clean, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said on Tuesday.
He urged them to ensure that no stagnant water remains around their homes and to encourage family members, friends and neighbours to maintain cleanliness.
Tarique Rahman made the remarks when 42 students of Kalmakanda Girls’ High School in Netrokona met him at the Parliament complex around 5:30pm. The students, from Classes VI to X, had visited Parliament to observe a session.
“Your small initiatives can help build a clean and healthy society,” the Prime Minister told the students, urging them to make cleanliness a habit starting from their own families.
During the meeting, he also asked the students about their studies, classes and future plans.
The Prime Minister advised them to take part in regular sports and physical exercise alongside their studies, stressing the importance of both physical and mental development.
He also encouraged the students to treat animals and other living creatures with kindness and avoid cruelty, saying compassion towards living beings reflects a humane society.
The students were accompanied by five teachers and two members of the school’s governing body.
They expressed excitement at meeting the Prime Minister and said they would follow his advice and share the messages with their families, schoolmates and people in their community.
