Twenty students of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College in Barishal were injured after a bus carrying them fell into a roadside ditch in Cumilla early Tuesday.
The accident occurred around 4:30am in the Jinglatali area of Daudkandi upazila on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.
The bus was carrying 40 students to Cox’s Bazar for an annual educational tour when the driver lost control of the vehicle, said Assistant Sub-Inspector Nur Uddin Bahar of Daudkandi Highway Police Station.
Police rushed to the scene after receiving the information and rescued the injured students.
Nine of the injured students were later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Following the accident, the students cancelled their educational tour and returned home.
The injured students were identified as Jaoat, Ferdous, Koushi, Miraj, Mursalin, Emon Mridha, Arif, Shafiqul Islam, Maliha Mehnaz, Raihan, Sajia, Taspia, Ariful Islam, Samiul, Rajarshi, Tasnim, Humayra, Mila, Nisa and Tanzina.
