Saudi police have arrested more than 14,000 migrants in a week for alleged violations of residency, labour and border security laws. During the same period, more than 12,000 migrants were deported to their respective countries.
The Saudi Ministry of Interior disclosed the figures in a statement on Sunday.
According to the ministry, more than 29,000 expatriates are currently undergoing legal proceedings for violating the country’s residency and labour laws.
Saudi authorities said they regularly conduct campaigns against violations of residency, labour and border security laws. The latest arrests and deportations were carried out as part of these ongoing operations.
Saudi Arabia has strict penalties for those who attempt to assist people in entering the country illegally. Such offences can carry a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a fine of up to 1 million Saudi riyals.
Saudi authorities have repeatedly warned people against assisting others in entering the country illegally and urged everyone to comply with the relevant laws and regulations.
