Prime Minister Tarique Rahman urged everyone to play a responsible role in keeping rivers pollution-free and ensuring a clean and liveable environment.
He said efforts should be made not only for the present generation but also to leave pollution-free rivers and a liveable environment for future generations. He called on people not to wait solely for government directives, but to contribute from a sense of personal responsibility.
The prime minister made the remarks at a review meeting at the Secretariat on Sunday afternoon on measures to control pollution in the rivers surrounding Dhaka, remove waste, ensure navigability and natural water flow, and develop the capital`s circular waterways.
He directed the authorities to take effective steps to implement the plans adopted so far without delay. He also stressed the need for proper coordination among the relevant ministries, divisions and agencies to ensure effective implementation of the initiatives.
